Hello Garfield,
Johnny Cash singing 25 minutes to go, which is a blackly comic song about some poor guy who is willing to be strapped into the Electric Chair and Can't wait to go. ZOWWEEE! and Ouch as well, but on a serious note Garfield, my saddest song is Simply Reds Holding back the years. and sadder still, is Gilbert O'Sullivans Alone Again Naturally, it contains the words, " I remember I cried when my Father Died" it gets me every time! very sad, and heartbreaking, Oh dear I have to end this letter.. Bye...Tony M

The Kids
by Lou Reed from the album 'Berlin'
There is the sounds of children screaming for their mommy on it. Possibly the hardest song to ever listen to.

Anything by Van Der Graaf Generator does the trick.
"I prophecied disaster, but who will count the cost?" is but a short example of their cheery outlook on life. They make the Cure sound positively summery.

For my wife it's "Amazing Grace" (any atrist) because it reminds her of her departed mother.
For me it's "Ashokan Farewell" as done in the film "Ken Burns - The Civil War."
Songs that make you depressed change over your lifetime as your mood/attitude/circumstances change. What makes you cry today probably won't six months after a divorce or death of a loved one.

no more tears in heaven
eric clapton~it is a tribute to his son conner aged just 5
who while climbing [as 5year old boys do ]tragically slipped and fell out from the tower building window
and was instantly killed
obviously its a very sad song for them reasons
but its also a very sombre tune
in general!
