Divide, rounding the quotient to the nearest tenth. The answer is 2.7 as is in the text book, but how do they come up with that?

it comes out to about 2.7419 so they rounded down to the nearest 10th

1.24/3.4
= 124/340
= 31/85

As you can see, the above is a fraction. It cannot be equal to 2.7.

3.4 / 1.24 = 2.74 = 2.7 (to 1 decimal place)

You've got it backwards. 3.4 divided by 1.24 is 2.74
