Becoming an optometrist is a great goal. First, I would encourage you to remember that plans at such a young age can, and often do, change. Less than 1% of eighth grade students actually go on to work in the profession that they choose at that age. I say this so you will not automatically exclude other ideas or options as they are presented to you. You have a good career goal, but be sure to keep and open mind as you choose your elective courses in high school.

If a career in optometry is what you seek, you will need all the life sciences (biology), and chemistry that you can take. You will also need to be very proficient in math courses to do well on the entrance tests that you will take later. Study hard and keep your grades high. Many medical fields are very competitive and only the best students are accepted.

Which college you attend is probably less important than how prepared you are to be there. Work hard every day and it will pay off for you. Good luck.

well, if i were you, i would start with trying to get a part-time or even a voluntary job at a local optometrist and ask them all the questions that have; even if you don't work at one, go by one and ask them about good schools, etc.
