Saline Injection Abortion:

Dilation & Evacuation abortions have largely replaced the saline variety). Their extreme risk to the mother has removed them from common practice today. In saline abortions, done after the 16th week, a large needle is inserted through the woman's abdominal wall and into the baby’s amniotic sac. A concentrated salt solution is injected into the amniotic fluid resulting in acute hypernatremia or acute salt poisoning. The baby breathes in and swallows the solution and is usually dead within a couple hours. Dehydration, hemorrhaging of the brain, organ failure, and burned skin also contribute to the fetus' demise. The mother generally goes into labor the next day and delivers a dead baby.

Dilation and Extraction (D and X) / Partial Birth Abortion:

Dilation and Extraction (often called partial birth abortion) is used during the 2nd or 3rd trimester and is usually performed on a viable baby. The Ultrasound-guided procedure is essentially the breach delivery of a live baby. Forceps, inserted through the cervical canal, are used to position the fetus so that it can be delivered feet first and face down. The child’s body is then pulled through the birth canal, but the head (too large to pass through the cervix) is left inside. With arms and legs exposed (and likely flailing), the abortion provider then inserts blunt surgical scissors into the base of the fetal skull and spreads the tips apart. A suction catheter is inserted into the skull and the brain is sucked out. The skull collapses until the baby’s head can pass through the cervix.

I am not for abortion but everyone's situation is different and I feel that abortions should only be allowed as long as they are able to take the abortion pills, normally up to 8 weeks pregnant. Or if the mothers health is at risk. It just gets so brutal as the pregnancy pregresses.

You wouldn't be allowed to do those horrible things to a newborn so why can you do it to an unborn child. Is a baby so different from when it is inside you than when it comes out?

To Chelleigh
So you say that harmful things sometimes happen to women who take the abortion pills? Well it was THEIR CHOICE to take it, however abortion is never the childs choice. So if they suffer from taking the pill they choose to take it - nobody to blame but themselves. I'm sure the side affects I told to you before you take it just like any other drug.

To SLIPKNOT ROX:

It's not the mother's choice whether or not the child would want to live because how does she know- she doesn't. I know of plenty of people who have been put up for adpotion by 'unfit' parents and those people were adopted by lovely parents and have great lives now thanks to their mother!

OMG!!! I am speechless after reading that! I cant believe that anyone could EVER do that to their baby. Its all there, legs, arm, head, brain, heart, everything. So in answer to your question i have no idea how that is not considered murder. Its just as if the baby were born alive and then they suffocated it.

Not only is this way to much information on weak stomach but cruel too. I do appreciate the wake up call on how its, rather wicked and a grim reminder how life is so precious.

Some people may take for granted that they can have a baby, many woman who can not have a baby of their own are often in disbelief on how someone can abort it or simply throw it in the trash. Society has got to come to reality that the world is moving fast and the faster it spins, the more we are all out of control and mayhem is our "demise". I know someone very close to me that had an abortion. I was sadden when I heard the news but I was even sadder to think, she/he could of been
my nephew/niece and may even been the star in our family tree. Life is about love and understanding. All I see with abortions is hate and misunderstandings. Confusion for the onlookers and patient under going abortion. I can see why the
reasons to abort are. Rape, medical complications with fetus or mom. However, other reasons are skeptic to me and I feel that 9 months of your time is worth a breath to life. Is it not?
People are misinformed on abortion and go to extremes in picketing outside of these clinics. However, you don't know the reason why the mother is there and should not judge until you yourself are in that persons shoes. What would you do, morals and values and religion plays a big part of it but when it comes to over anything, the baby. Whats best for him/her?
Life or death? People are protective of their young and then there are some who just don't care and probably shouldn't of had a baby to start with and their for I feel bad for those kids who are brought into a world of unknown and they didn't ask to be here, there for its out of obligation to at least give it a chance to life. Some may agree and others will disagree but that won't matter until you yourself may have to decide those same very question.

If the fetus cannot live on its own, it's a part of the woman's body and subject to the woman's decisions.

I'm not pro-abortion, but it's a medical procedure protected by law. I support a woman's right to make decisions about her own health, her own body.

And as far as D&X, viable babies generally aren't aborted. Late term abortions are generally used when, say, the fetus doesn't have a brain, that sort of thing. Do you really think it's fair to make a woman give birth to a brainless baby that will die almost immediately once it's born? Should a woman carry a severely damaged fetus full-term and have a stillbirth?

When you take away a woman's right to make decisions about her own body, you might put her in incredibly cruel, dangerous situations. Until it's born, the fetus has no rights.

Think about the situation a little deeper. Think about more situations than, "it's a perfectly good baby and this is murder."

Go beyond the idea that it's murder and realize that it may be far kinder to let a woman have an abortion than to make her suffer through a pregnancy that will result in a dead baby, one that is born dead or dies upon birth.

It's not so simple!

Ive walked that path of irresponsibility with doing this....once not caring and another time wishing I wasnt about to do what I did, and suffered extreme guilt due to it. I had the first one when my daughter was 4mons old in 1999. and the last was 7/30/05....a date I wont forget. I was 7.5wks. I had no good reasons...but all for the sake of being selfish. I didnt even tell my boyfreind I was going to do it. He was so upset when I told him that night...he didnt even believe me. I hid my emotions, tried to hid them but after 2 mons every time i was about to hit another month I would get upset. I would think about it constantly and when i was due to give birth on 3/14/06 the 2weeks that led up to that date were very upsetting. I got very depressed and realized how wrong I was. I would always talk to my boyfriend about how I felt and the emotions I have gone through, and exactly a year after I should have had that child I found I was pregnant. We planned this child this time and I have never been happier. I cannot wait to see my child into this world in Nov. Just writing about this has got me a lil teary thinking bout it. But I have lived and learned and am glad I can admit my wrong.

Now....although I have seen my faults it is still not my place to judge ANYONE on thier decisions. They could be going through any number of things. Anthing from personal to the fetus having a fatal abnormality that will not live through the birth process or that has demised in utero. I have read over and over again abortion stories and have looked at pictures all in which have grounded me and put me in my place. Giving me that reality check I needed.

Remember everyone has the right to make their own decision.

It is such a horrible thing. People seem to think that since they can't hold it in their arms, it must not "really" be a baby. What a load of BS. They obviously have not read the studies on at what age a "fetus" begins feeling pain. Abortion is a selfish choice. You could just as easily give it up for adoption. I mean, yes, it will be an "inconvenience" for you for 9 months, but I guess you should have thought of that before you got knocked up. Yes, I know some women are raped, and that is horrible, but was that the baby's fault? No. So why should it suffer just to make your life better? Did you deserve to be raped? No. Does the baby deserve to die? No. You don't have to keep it, but for God's sake, don't kill it. I know this is a hot button issue, but hey, since it's a free country I can say what I think and if people don't like it, too bad. If people can fight about why abortion is ok, I can fight about why it's not.

Everyone just needs to take a step back and put themselves in that person's shoes. Look at your own family, I'm sure one of them had an abortion once. It isn't always a drugged mother and a jailed father, it's a lot more than that. Sometimes, it is the only option for one person. There are a ton of reasons why people consider an abortion. The woman who has it done, has to live with it for the rest of her life and she knows and accepts that. If you think about it, if the fetus would not be able to sustain life in its current state anyway. When these procedures are done, the child is in a medically induced coma, so they don't know what is going on. And the abortion pill you are referring to "The French Abortion Pill" aka RU-486, isn't even an option for every woman(physically) and it has been linked to multiple deaths of women who had taken them, not to mention other devastating side affects which have been known to leave women crippled and/or barren.

Any woman who can do these things doesn't deserve a body of her own. I, for one, am tired of the same old "it's a woman's body so it's her choice" argument. What they fail to recognize is that it's still their body AFTER normal childbirth!!!! What about the baby's body? It's HIS or HER body that you're sucking those brains out of!!! I don't understand how a woman could resent the fact that she was created with the privilege to bear the child! I also can't believe what a "throw- away" society we've become! We have disposable everything else, why not "disposable people"! That's what abortion boils down to. Everyone wants to have sex and not play by the rules or be responsible for the results. Sad...

i really don't know why people bother with post's like this, it's just a way of starting a debate. i agree with abortions and have had one myself. not once since having it have i felt guilty, i did the right thing for my own circumstances.
abortions after a certain time are not given because the baby is no longer wanted, there done because of complications and medical reasons. an abortion is a private and personal decision and it should never be illegal because for many people it is the right thing, we don't need baby's being dumped in garbage dumpsters or left in the cold because poeple weren't ready for the responsibility. everyone should let people do whats best for themselves without the looks of judgment

have you ever heard of fatal birth defects? birth defects where the childs spine is outside of the body or that the child never develops the brain, and it is putting the mothers life in danger and even if the child DID survive it would have a short, horribly painful life? i used to be prolife until i read up on some of these cases. you should too, it will break your heart on some of the deformalities. there was actually a story on yahoos hompage about a happily pregnant woman who aborted her baby, after she had already been ready for it and loved it, because of a horrible defect. you should read it.

Most people believe that a fetus that is 1.5" long (the size it is at 12 weeks) is not a "child."

Third trimester abortions are illegal in most states.

The saline technique is not used anymore.

D&Es are not all so-called "partial birth" abortions. Most are done in the first trimester, when the fetus is less than 1" long.

And bottom line, if you don't want an abortion, don't have one.

I agree that abortion is murder. If you do not want this baby or the responsibilities, give it up for adoption. Give this baby a life. There are alot of women who cant have kids who would love to adopt a baby and give it a good life,
