It sounds like your "splitting" the size of the apartment, your getting the L room she gets the B room. if they are the same size...then it is fair. she's having to share her room with her daughter! However-since you will be living in the living room, will they be spending time in your bedroom? How Much time?
things to consider...

no that is not fair. if you will be living in the living room they can walk threw the room anytime of night while you are sleeping. I don't think you would like it. I would not move into a place like this. you will have no time to yourself, that you can close the door and have quiet time. I helped a so called friend and her husband after my husband died. I have to adults children who are handicapped. well I helped my so called friends out by living with them in an apartment and we split everything 50/50. they landed up sticking me with everything and moved out after five months. I would never do this again. and they had there own bedroom also. he was mad because I had the master bedroom.

I would never recommend sharing food costs with a roommate. Someone always winds up getting totally screwed. One roommate will drink all of your microbrew and then try to replace it with a six-pack of PBR. You'll put a bunch of strawberries into your smoothie when it turns out that your roommate needed them to make fondue for her hot date or French final. It just doesn't work. If you two are on the same page about staples (like flour), you can share that, but if one of you is hugely into baking and the other wouldn't use those ingredients on a daily basis, skip it. It is always best to buy your own food, especially if you have different eating habits.

You need 2 consider not the terms of JUST THIS ONE Apartment; BUT ALSO the terms that other apartment renters are ALSO offering in the SAME AREA.
If after Considering all THE OTHER Deals of sharing apartments in the SAME AREA; Consider Whether or Not THIS MOTHER is giving YOU THE BEST DEAL.
If THIS WOMAN is giving the Best Deal In THAT AREA then I Would ACCEPT IT until I could find Something Better
p.s. Nobody is TAKING ADVANTAGE of the other person IF you and this mother make an agreement BEFORE you move in
p.s.s. Remember Also THAT ITS OKAY 2 BARGAIN BEFORE You MOVE IN

providing they'll pay 2/3 of the bills then yes, 50/50 of the rent is fair as it's the room your paying for and they'll be occupying just 1. (assuming they are?!)

Not fair. If you are giving up your room and there are 2 of them, it should be them 2/3, you 1/3.....

I personally would steer clear of a situation such as this..I have never seen these type of situations have positive outcomes...especially if the parties do not know one another. My advice is to always have any agreement in writing and make sure an attorney reviewed it to make sure it would stick in small claims court or higher court. Also, in many areas if you are not on the lease you have no rights. Be careful

To me it seems that you should only pay 1/3 of the rent if there are two other people living there.
