If you really want a professional job. Leave the "what kind of brake pads" decision up to the people that do hundreds of brake jobs every month. Take your car to Allen Tire Co. They're the most honest place I know in your area for brake service. There's one in Lakewood, Torrance, Arcadia and Downey. www.allentire.com

The pads are not hard to replace at all. If you are mechanically inclined and like to work on your cars then you should be able to do it yourself. As far as you buying them and then taking them to a shop to have them put them on for you. More then likely the shop will say no because it comes down to money. But they may say yes and charge you a little bit extra.

if you buy brake pads from online but want a pro to install them just take em to the local garage to do it.
Places like Midas and such will probally throw a hissy fit since they want you to use thier pads.

MOST shops won't replace customer supplied parts because they can't guaranty the quality or proper fit to the vehicle.

You're better off going to Midas, or something like them for the service.
Lifetime warranty.

If you do that you'll get double charged for the installation and no warranty, at least that's what I'd do to you.
