i know the string theory from quantum leap is- your life is like a piece of string. the beginning is birth and the end is death. if you loop the string around so the end meets the beginning, you will go from death to birth. if the string is balled up, parts of the string will touch other parts, so you can 'leap' from one part to the other. that's probably not what youre looking for, but it's still my favorite :)

the string theory is based on strings that make up space and are very small. they are stretched very tight and vibrate. a unique vibration that folded space into dimensions. how many depends on who you ask, but from the folded up dimensions our 4 dimensions are derived from. the math is very very complicated and some say that for all the numbers to be crunched on the worlds fastest computer would take approx. 4 years to solve. i do not find the symmetry in string theory as of now.

We all would like to know. The theory is a mystery to most of Us.Perhaps a scientist or astrophysist from Nasa might be able to answer your question.

Are you kidding? EVERYBODY knows what String Theory is all about.

In case you don't though, here is a link:

P.S. Read books by Michio Kaku. Principia won't help you.
