Getting a better price on AT&T DSL?

Has anyone been successful in getting AT&T to lower its price on DSL service by (nicely) suggesting that you might switch to Comcast?

No I haven't but in a recent LA Times story, AT & T will join with movie and record companies to create snooping software to spy on their customers intenet activity so you might want to drop AT & T ! I know I am !

comcast isn't cheaper.
but, sonic is cheaper.
you want to talk to the DSL retention department.
