Zinnia is an annual, however, it reseeds freely and if left undisturbed until next spring you will get a whole new crop of zinnia.
You can either harvest the seed to plant where you like or you can leave the flower to drop its seeds and have flowers in the same place. I just leave mine and I find zinnia coming up in several locations.

zinnias are a perinnial. After the summer is over, it will die. You could try taking it inside when it gets cold, but I'm pretty sure they have a short life-span. Most flowers in hanging baskets are perinnials.

Definitly an annual and easy to maintain. Just water and watch grow!

It's classified as an "annual". Flower to seed in one growing season. Then it dies at first frost. Perennials come back every year, and don't die after one growing season.
