Print a copy of the US Metric Act of 1866 and the US Metric Conversion Act of 1975. See the websites below.
If anyone tries to sell you stuff in US traditional units rather than metric, show them the policy and law and ask why they are being disloyal to their elected government.
(Remember many of them are armed.)
A safer option might be to look at the conversion factors on www.sizes.com
Metric Conversion Act of 1975 Sec. 205b.
Declaration of policy
It is therefore the declared policy of the United States--
(1) to designate the metric system of measurement as the preferred system of weights and measures for United States trade and commerce;
(2) to require that each Federal agency, by a date certain and to the extent economically feasible by the end of the fiscal year 1992, use the metric system of measurement in its procurements, grants, and other business-related activities, except to the extent that such use is impractical or is likely to cause significant inefficiencies or loss of markets to United States firms, such as when foreign competitors are producing competing products in non- metric units;
(3) to seek out ways to increase understanding of the metric system of measurement through educational information and guidance and in Government publications; and
(4) to permit the continued use of traditional systems of weights and measures in non-business activities.

If you want to communicate with Americans you will need to understand the measurement system. If you are honest and simply state you don't understand most people will help you along.

stick to stone and meters and stuff. The Americans will know you're ahead of the game because they should have learned it years ago, and they can't convert that fast, so they'll assume any measurement or weight you give is accurate to within 1/10,000 just because they don't have any idea themselves.

Depends.
If you go there for vacation, no probably not.
But if you want to live her you might want to brush up on our measurement system, which is really confusing.

EVERYONE is welcome! But if you CHOOSE to live here, (remember, there IS a choice), then you must become a part of the American public, do as we do, embrace our good points and all the rest.
