Lately when I've tried to copy then paste very large images (namely print-screen screen captures) to the image viewing/managing program I use IrfanView, an error message pops up saying that I can't paste from clipboard.

I've had it happen before, but it had gone away if I had fulled closed out the program (through the task manager) or restarted the computer, but the past couple of days it hasn't gone away. I've been able to paste screen sized images before (on the same program, same version of it) and not had a problem.

What's going on here?

Sounds like a file in the program is corrupted. I would first remove the program and reinstall it. If that doesn't work, then your operating system is the problem which will lead to the same thing reinstall the operating system.

This has to be done periodically, as eventually a computer hard-drive gets filled with junk and no matter how maticulous you are about keeping your system clean all the little things you delete will start causing system crashes, programs to stop working correctly etc, and eventually the whole system will refuse to bootup, due to corrupted system files. So about once every 6 months, or sooner if you are a heavy software user I always recommend reinstalling the operating system.

Try M$-Paint or WordPad instead. If they can't pull the image from the clipboard, the image probably wasn't there in the first place OR your PC is infected with malware.

Use the Discovery Tab to find more info on malware.

One possibility: the hard drive partition on which your "swap file" resides is filling up. Try running disk cleanup on all your partitions.
