I took this for 3 years. I experienced the good side effects such as lighter periods (I used to bleed between 6-10 days, after I was at 2-4 days), little to no cramping, less pimples and less bloating and water gain during periods. Birth control effects everyone differently. You should know, wait a month before you become sexually active! It DOES take that long to kick in. Also pick one time every day to take it! If your late you can screw it up. If your early then you have to adjust your whole schedule. Due to this I changed over to Depo and now I get a shot once every 3 months, I have no period, cramps ect, but I have gained a little weight.

All birth control effect each woman differently, my experience may seem optimum for both, but you may have a different reaction. Can't find out until you start sweetie. I had a friend who got violent on ortho (due to a reaction to the hormones).

Remember too, when getting into sex, be super safe and do use a condom even if you are on the pill. You can still get preggers (Again, another friend had this happen)

oh and as stated above any penicillin (or any antibiotic that ends in cillin) is going to effect the birth control. You have to wait a week after finishing the dosages for it not to effect the BC.

Read the information packet that came with your pills.. It's very, very important that you take your pill at the same time everyday or at least an hour before/after you usually take it... Or there's a chance that it won't work properly.. Also, if you are really, really concerned about not getting pregnant may I also suggest that you use a back-up method I like VCF or vaginal contraceptive film...It looks like the wrapper to a fruit roll up and can be inserted BEFORE intercourse...It doesn't have a smell, taste and is good for several hours and there's no clean-up.... It's also very inexpensive about $12 for a 12pk. It's best used if you are in a relationship since it does NOT protect you from STD's... Good luck and be well.

Everyone is different and can react differently to drugs.... see website specific to product here is one http://www.drugs.com/mtm/ortho-tri-cyclen-lo.html

This medication can cause birth defects. Do not use if you are pregnant. Tell your doctor right away if you become pregnant, or if you miss two menstrual periods in a row. If you have recently had a baby, wait at least 4 weeks before taking birth control pills (6 weeks if you are breast-feeding). Do not use this medication if you have:
a history of a stroke, blood clot, or circulation problems;

a hormone-related cancer such as breast or uterine cancer;

abnormal vaginal bleeding;

liver disease or liver cancer;

severe migraine headaches; or

a history of jaundice caused by birth control pills.

Two friends are taking it. One gained a few (like 5) pounds. The other has no side effects at all. From all I've heard, it's a great version of the pill with fewer side effects than most others.

I would go with the IUD if I were you. I had the Mirena IUD for 3 years, and have recently had it removed to try for baby number 2. The IUD was painless to get in, I had it put in at my 6 week check up after my daughter was born. It is safe to use if you are nursing your newborn, and it lasts for 5 years!!! Plus you do not have to worry about pills or anything else. The only think I didn't know when I got the Mirena is that is can take awhile for your menstral cycles to return to normal after having the IUD removed. I had mine removed in December 2008, and in the past couple months my cycles have finally returned to normal, other than that, I HIGHLY recommend the IUD!

it can cause hormone imbalances than can result in the inability to have children later on. it might not have no side effects either. hope you make the right decision!
