I have a four blade ceiling fan-common in apartment. It's in the bedroom, so noise is an issue.

Make sure all of the screws are tight. Loose screws allows the blades to make more noise. Otherwise replace the fan with a newer model with a quieter sound.

If the blades aren't balanced properly it will make quite a difference. You can get a balancing kit at most hardware stores.

You can't change them once installed except to turn them down, more expensive ones are quieter though.
