When the average American income is less than $50,000, isn't this too much? If we could force them to work for the wages of the every-man, wouldn't that keep our government more in touch with their constituents?
What do you think? Why?

Bill G.
Less than three percent. Though that doesn't seem like much, I'm still appalled that they are making more than three times the salary of the average constituent, and begging for more.

How about we just stop paying them from the federal budget altogether? Let them be paid whatever their home states decide they should be paid, and that goes for their expense accounts and living expenses, too.

It really doesn't matter because the real money is in campaign contributions. We could pay them no salary and they'd still be making crazy money off of us.

The fact that they constantly vote to give themselves raises is a bit of a slap in the face though, considering they are already some of the richest people in the country and they have other sources of income.

What percent increase would that be? Let me know and I'll answer your question.

3%? I'd have to say ok as I hope I soon get 5%. But my 5% will only amount to less than half of their 3%. I understand what you are saying. What galls me more then their pay raise is their retirement plan.

I think term limits would cause them to live like the rest of us more than cutting their $4400. They make tens of thousands on the speaking circuit anyway. Maybe I'm wrong.

Considering how little they do that actually benefits the average American, and how few days they actually "work", they aren't worth 1/2 as much as they now receive.

$170,000 would barely pay their limo bill. It's the millions they pocket with lobbyist bribes and pork barrel agendas that is too much.
