Do the students wear clothes under their robes? I remember having Harry Potter stickers that showed the trio wearing jeans and a sweater under their robes, but in OoP in Snape's worst memory, James turned him upside down and everyone could see his underwear. I'm really confused. Is it that Snape just didn't wear pants?

It's just in the movies that they have the kids wear other clothes. But maybe it's a trend now. Maybe then, they didn't wear clothes underneath.

Question, what eactly was the dressing style requried by Hogwarts at the time Sirius, Lupin, Pettigrew, Harry's parent's and Snape went? Obviously robes were required, but was what they were expected to wear underneath the same as when Harry and the gang are currently attending? My point is that styles and requirements can change between when a parent is attending school and when their kids attend. Some things may remain the same, some may be totally different. Maybe when Harry's folks were attending the only thing they were allowed to wear under their robes was their underwear.

Or maybe Snape had a reason he only had his underwear on underneath. Perhaps he didn't have any clean clothes for whatever the reason beside his underwear and robes. Maybe someone had cast some kind of a spell on his clothes to make the uncomfortable to wear. Could be they were giving him a rash and the hospital wing (do we know if Madam Pomfrey was the school nurse at that time?) allowed him to attend his O.W.L.S.s rather than remain, advising him to rub some sort of lotion on his body and not to wear his clothes. Might be he'd had a reason to have his robes off for one of the O.W.L.S.s and spilled something all over his clothes then didn't have time to change into anything else so he took 'em off and just threw on his robes then forgot about it. It could even be that all his regular clothes were heavier and more geared to cooler temperatures and he found them too hot for that particular day so he'd taken them off in an effort to keep cool.

Most of them wear clothes, although it seems like those that come from pure-blood families don't know anything about a fashion sense (wizards with no understanding of Muggle clothes always dress funny when they try to go out into public). Mrs. Weasley's Christmas sweaters prove that they wear other clothing besides their robes, but I don't know if they wear pants underneath their robes. Maybe Snape was just too poor to afford any?

They do wear clothes. The girls where button up shirts with skirts and their house colored knee high socks if I remember correctly. I think the guys wear button up white shirts too and with black pants. And they all wear ties with their house colors on it.
As for the incident where we saw Snape's underwear, if I recall correctly, I think Snape had just been pantsed and then got turned upside down so his pants were still around his ankle. I'm not sure if this really happened but I think I remember something about Snape getting pantsed a lot.

Sometimes they do wear clothes other times they don't. You normally find Harry, Hermione and Ron wearing normal clothes.

About Snape...(haha, Snape's worst memory is my FAVORITE chapter) From what I understand James had a spell that pulled down his pants so everyone could see his underwear.

I hope I helped some.
