I know what you mean im pretty sure that the staff who work in the dhss and job centres have it written into their contracts that they must stare aimlessly out of a window for 80% of any working day

I was going to say overworked and underpaid. But the honest truth is probably that most of the people in social services are neither SOCIAL nor do they care to SERVE.
Very few of them, in my experience on both sides of the desk, have ANY degrees from college that have to do with social work, human services, or the like. They probably just have a four-year degree, if that. Meaning that they generally didn't get the job because they cared about people at all.
By the way, the correct title is usually case worker, not social worker as some people may think. There are scarcely ANY social workers in social services. THAT'S part of the problem.

Hi.
As with all state systems the people who know most about what is needed and what will work are never consulted ( those being the "workers" i.e care givers and "clients" recipients.) My uncle has had MS for 20 years. He broke his hip 2 years ago and contracted MRSA - but its OK cause the hospital said he had as much chance of catching it at home - strange since he hasn't had a cold in the last 20 years! This left him in a wheel chair and in need of walls knocking through so he could get to the toilet. After 1 month of waiting my father took a sledge hammer and knocked a hole through his brothers bedroom wall. How hard would it have been!!!
(P.S. he was involved in a war for this country and did national service for it)
Over stretched and under resourced. Shame on you UK.

That isn't true. I agree, that the stipulations these days are much harsher than they used to be, but that is because Social Services would much rather that able bodied adults WORK and make their own living. You don't get jack sh*t from them anyway if you ARE on...Well, maybe that's an over statement. You get JUST ENOUGH, but barely. If that doesn't MAKE you want to get a job and not be caught up in the system, then NOTHING will.
I suggest that in the mean time, that you look into local groups that offer free job readiness training and job search assistance. They are there to be used, so really, use them and learn from them.

well, it depends on the social worker who handle the case through the recommendation of social worker the needs of a person/patient who are in dire needs of help. sometimes or most of time the recommendation from the social worker is good or satisfactory. few to mention are inapropriate to their assigned field...thats the time the help needed wasnt the help you expected from them. it really happens in different form of asking solutions/help from them. some are arrogant instead of giving understanding to the people who are helpless. i encountered twice....but anyway..i understand them...cuz some people take advantage ...of the situations.

providing real care and consideration is very complicated and therefore many people who need help are fobbed off.
