I lived in Munich for over a year, and the Germans generally have no sense of humour, and little sex appeal. Many resort to looking 'tough' or claiming their Russian to ease their own inner problems. If i were you, i would stay away from any German person- put it like this, they start two world wars, they could start a third. They have nothing else going for them, so why not?

It is somwhat true. The war times weren't that long ago (about 60 years ago) so those poeple are still alive to this day. Europe was flooded with communism and terrors that are even unimaginable to you. I know because my grandmother and grand grandmother lived through the war(poland) and mt grand grandmother remebers hiding in the woods and seeing dead bodies. Would you have emotion if you would go through that? It lasted years and before that there was world war 1 and afterwards there was still a problem with communism and money. As thoes kids are raised by these people they usually get this cold hard feel about them. They seem emotionless because europe still has poverty and so much problems to this day. Life is hard and you could see it any one. Some are nice and stuff, but those who hade a taste of that dark world have a tougher appearance because they suffereed more then use. Its stircter to for some people, i mean the parents may be stricter there then the ones in north america.

You cannot judge German people from talking to just one guy.
I always had the view that they were cold and unfunny but this is not true. All the Germans that I have met have been really friendly and fun.
The World Cup Finals in 2006 were held in Germany and they were regarded as great success. The Germans were great hosts and their slogan for the event was " A Time to Make Friends"

Also, any country that loves David Hasselhoff's music must have a sense of humour.
By the way, those of you who mentioned the War, it ended in 1945 - 62 years ago. I don't think it is an issue, as most of the people living in Germany now were not even born then.

A few bad apples always spoil the bunch. Of course not all Germans are tough with no feelings, just like not all Italians are in the mafia. Anyway, I've never heard that particular stereotype about Germans. Who is "people?"

As a whole, Germanic and Eastern Europens i.e. Slavs, Romanians, etc. are definitely a hearty bunch of people.
They probably share a lot in comparison with those native New Yorkers who can be no-nonsense, straight-to-the-point and-from-the-hip shooters for some, yet salt of the earth and down right real for others!
So in response to you hope it's not true, well, rest easy, because it really isn't!
Take care, eh?!

I'm German and the relatives I came in contact with, were the
most generous and friendliest of people to anyone they visited or came in contact with. But they were Americans. Not
living abroad. My mom went over there for an Octoberfest,
and was ashamed she was German, she told me when she
got home. Even distant relatives were not friendly as she ex-
pected. We were sure saddened to hear that. So they must
be more hardened than we realize here in the states.

Q "Helga, what do you call a camel with three humps?"
A "A mutant?"
I'll never understand Germans, two World Wars, terrible video games (Harvest Moon is Japanese not German) and the most overpriced cars in the world. I'm sure that Germans have feelings but you have to make an appointment before they'll express them.

No, I have hosted a german student and been to Germany. They are just like us and have feelings too. Maybe the guy you talk to just had problems sharing how he felt, and his personality was just tough.

Germans, where I lived, do tend to be on the cold side. The are a little more "a matter of factly" and business like. But once you get to know them they are friendly.
