what is a skate? not a roller skate but a fish skate.?

Its a member of the ray family, slightly larger more commonly caught and eaten in Europe, (not what i would call decent fair)

A skate is a ray, like a sting ray without the stinger.

Type of ray. Related to sharks. Kinda looks like a cross between a shark and a sting ray. Bottom feeder. Dogfish is one.
