it's morally wrong in almost all cultures in the world. population would cease if we did not reproduce with others, and if we kept it in the family, we'd end up with all sorts of mutations. it's just not right. people from all areas of the world would say the same thing. "taboo"

The two main reasons that I'm aware of our genetics and social/cultural standards. Geneticly, the more inbreeding you do, the less diversity you get resulting in a higher rate of genetic diseases, that's why anemia was so common among royals, because they're was so much inbreeding among siblings and first cousins. Another genetic reason is that it causes too little diversity and so a population of people are more susceptible to diseases, so that a single virus could come along and wipe out the whole population, or close to that, instead of just 10%. Anthropologicaly, I think the stigmas and acceptable behavior around all that developed to the way it is now as a result of the genetic reasons. Personally, I think it's wrong, because everyone should have a place to grow up where they feel safe and learn how to interact with others in a nonsexual manner, and the family scene is really the best place to do that. It's too confusing and too hard to develop a good self identity if you're allowed to see your siblings or other family members as sexually attractive, and act on those impulses. And plus, where then would you draw the line at what age it's OK to do what?

well its aganst the law and it is morally unethical and the chance of having a medically ill baby is higher in an incest birth. But besides those no theres no other reason why siblings cant marry. But you got to think long and hard before entering a relationship with one of youre family memebers it would tear youre other relationships apart and you will be made fun of evil glances and a whole bunch of other crap. its highly looked down upon and is taboo so if you are considering this or if someone you know is considering this think long long long about it and hopefully u can find some answers.

consider the situation where there is no prohibition of sibling marriage. Children of the same family would be courting each other. Rivalries that are now only among persons on the outside of the family would be rife inside the family. brother slaying brother for the attention of the sister or vice versa (sister poisoning sister/sisters) will not be a far fetched possibility. and if siblings can marry, why not parents their children? where a father fights son, the latter is more likely to be killed or driven away; so the young blood never gets a chance because of cradle snatching. it would have been alright, if unlike most of the other species we didnot have the tendency and the need to partner for life. healthy females would not be bound to impotent or sickly males and the principle of natural selection would have given the more potent males free access to all the desirable females. as it is it would spell catastrophe for the species since human babies remain "babies" for many many years.

Ok, you got many good answers here.. The most obvious reasons are that its against the law and the genetics thing. However, you asked if in ancient times, they hadnt done this, then how did we populate the world. I suggest reading the Bible! In the Old Testament, it was ok to *lay down* with your blood relatives... but after seeing the bad that it caused, it was no longer exceptable.

So, three very good reasons not to marry a relative are: God, The Law, And Genetics.

Actually the genes in the genetic problem are only a problem if you both carry the gene because it reinforces the problem that is inherited. The main reason you cant marry siblings is that it is just gross.

Well if you and your sibling are both hot girls, then I have no problem with that. Otherwise, the genetics factor is not that dangerous. The first siblings can have offsprings with no complications, but if those children decide to follow in your footsteps and have children with each other, then you would start to have trouble. Good luck doing your brother. Let us know how it works out.

because it's against gods will for the world. he wants siblings to find love outside of family's. if one sibling marries another than the same will happen to another and another. that just puts the system out of wack. of course people did it in the beginning of time because there weren't many people around, so in order to populate the earth, that's what the had to do, but now, times are different than thousands of years ago

I believe that the only reason that counts is that it's illegal. You can invoke genetics and social- and family-structure reasons, but in the end, the law is the reason.

Because it's morally wrong! Why would you want to marry your brother or sister?!? Why would ANYONE want to be a part of an incestuous relationship?
