Ford used Type F Automatic Transmission Fluid in them. It is NOT the same as Dexron or Mercon fluid. Be SURE to either get Type F ATF or power steering fluid. Do NOT put brake fluid in there!

The 'seventy 3 and 'seventy 4 Mustang have been completely diverse (for the poster above me). 'seventy 3 replaced into the final year of the "vast" mustang ('seventy one-seventy 3 physique type), 'seventy 4 replaced into the 1st year of the Mustang II. besides- with a Cleveland, it won't take lots to furnish it some giddyup. save the two barrel heads, the 4 barrel heads sacrifice low end ability for precise end speed. I assure you will possibly hate them on your heavy convertible. a powerful 4 barrel intake & carb, headers, sturdy exhaust device, and a shift kit for the transmission might bypass a protracted techniques in direction of convalescing ability. additionally, any thought what gears the vehicle's have been given in the rearend? I guess they do no longer look to be suited for acceleration with a three speed motor vehicle. 3.seventy 3's or 4.10's could be super. in case you're feeling like tearing into it a splash, milling some thousandths off the heads might bump the compressor a element or so and supply you a honest volume of ability too (yet, previously once you think approximately that, it incredibly is fairly helpful to earnings what the production facility compression ratio replaced into...on a 'seventy 3 2 bbl cleveland, in all likelihood no longer that best)

I used the good old automatic transmission fluid in the old powersteering pumps. You can use any powersteering fluid, too. Just not the cheapo stuff that's two for a dollar. I like the synthetic blend Valvoline, it holds up well in extreme heat.
Good Luck!

You can use DOT power steering fluid or type F transmission fluid in a pinch. Make sure that's what's already in there if you do. Someone my have put Dextron in the reservoir already.
