Americans aren't exactly well known for being critical thinkers, now are we? I don't think most of the "real news" on tv is real anymore, it's infotainment. A 15-20 second "analysis" of a complex issue is not going to give us a bit of insight.
I read the paper, or read different articles on the web, or read magazines or scientific research studies. I can't stomach the tv news, it's just focused on disaster-of-the-moment or what-celebrity-is-in-rehab. Most of the radio shows are so biased I can't listen to it. Same with the Sunday morning "news" shows-right wing pundits arguing with far-right wing pundits.

The Daily Show has actual video of the lies and weasels that officials say, then they often replay older actual videos of the same person saying something related to the new statement, followed the hilarious double take of John Stewart... It is not funny 'news' till he makes you laugh about it. Thank Goodness somebody knows how to laugh about it. Now the so called real news of Fox has been exposed time after time to be distortions, opinions and outright lies [calling a public school a medrassa because a politician they don't like went there] ... but then those right wing talking heads have no connection to reality, it is just about making money to them by suckering in all the bozo's who want to believe hate is good.

Because alot of people can't distinguish between News & Entertainment anymore. When news shows begin to feature segments on Entertainment figures -like Paris Hilton all the time; & Entertainment shows -like the Daily Show start giving THEIR "spin" on news stories- people begin to lose sight of which is which ! The REAL Media- is no more "liberal" than it's ever been. It's just that people have become "dumbed down" by their inability to distinguish between what's "real" - & not. :(

Because TDS comes about as close to covering real news as the so-called real news does.
The news is all subjective and ratings-biased. It is filled with conjecture. When it isnt showing news reports - if you could call them that - it is talk shows with bloated pundits spewing hyperbolic nonsensical rhetoric to sell a book. You think you can find news on cable channels? Please.
Journalism is practically dead on the idiot box.

i really don't think that the daily show is a spoof show. the only part of the show that i watch is the news part. the other stuff doesn't interest me. i think that these days the news is so depressing that anything that actually reports the news but on a lighter note is always welcome.

In a way you're right. Such shows expose the bias of other networks by using sarcasm, parody, etc. However, they don't always give the most clear presentation of the news, and you have to sift through the laughs and sarcasm to get to the real story.

well, the Daily show is a comedic show, so it doesn't have the same restraints as mainstream journalism. Journalism has to be sneaky when trying to work in their bias, while the Daily Show can just state what they believe and all their opinions.

i agree with alaspada, the talking heads like larry king and such are able to charm the audience far more effectively than the likes of katy and the network talentless amateurs. it is all about talent not truth. like real estate is all about location, location, location. news has become all about audience share, audience share, audience share.or as larry spiegel (dallas) the media genius says, "reach, reach, reach!" whatever it takes. now aint that simple?

Because the celebrity of the show seems to pull them in and the regular media even plays it up.
