I live in Cairns - and there is construction everywhere - especially the Northern Beaches area which is the best.

Checking the immigration rules and your VISA are important firsts.
During my travel I saw that people traveling also stayed after the fact but that entailed paying a professional for assistance. Some just take jobs as they go along...Hostels, travel agencies..etc...

check out the immigration site before you plan anything,you need to see if you qualify to live in Australia and work first
it isn't as easy as it used to be to immigrate
