I just got a widescreen monitor, but it would be much better for my work if I could turn it 90 degrees and have the display stretch up and down. Is there any way to do this?

It i the Video Card, and not the monitor, who is responsible for presenting an image in a vertical or horizontal view. My computer's video card accepts such rotation, and you can gain access to these features by entering your video card configs and settings (I usually right-click on the desktop, select properties, select Config Tab, Advanced) and somewhere in there you could find this option. I found it out myself by accident when my 4-yr old did it on her own, and it took me a while to fix it, as well as a very bad pain on the neck (my monitor is screwed to the desk and can't be rotated physically). Greetings...

There is a standard VESA mount on the back of the monitor, so if the monitor will not rotate on it's current stand you should be able to go out and buy a VESA compliant monitor stand that can do this.

They do tend to be expensive though.

Other answers have told you how to rotate the image on the monitor.

Yes, enter the monitors settings menu and it will allow you to rotate your display 90 degrees, then simply rotate your monitor vertically to compensate.

Pull out your card and put it in again may be loose, or damaged.

I really have no idea if they can all do it, but I HAVE seen some that way.
