I've built a large doghouse and it's made of OSB board. I was planning on covering it with wood or siding, but someone told me that the OSB is waterproof and would stand up to the elements if I just paint it. Is that correct?

thats is right osb is not water proof what you should have used is 3/4 in ply and then you could cover it and for the roof you would want to use roofing paper and shingles

OSB is rated as exposure 1, which means it is not intended to be exposed to weather, and so it will deteriorate rather quickly if simply painted unless you live in a very dry area. Put some sort of siding on it, in addition to not being very weather resistant, it is ugly too. You could use a sheet of Hardi Panel, shakes, vinyl or pressed siding, or cedar, anything made for the purpose really.

OSB board is not waterproof, it's not treated and must be covered or it'll start swelling and peeling.

It needs to be covered... try out the Hardi-Planks or panels At Lowe's.
it lasts forever...well...as close to it as I have seen. you might be able to use 2-4 planks and only 1 panel. you might even look into them for the house when you see how nice they are...

Plywood is a stronger because of veneers and Mnfg using cross lamination. OSB meets grading standards but is not as durable as plywood. Plywood is about twice as strong.
