Why does my notebook keep making grinding noises?

I checked for viruses and spyware and non came up. Every once in a while my notebook just keeps grinding and there are no programs loading or installing. Is this normal or something is wrong. By the way its a HP notebook so it might be a HP thing.

Need to get some compressed air and clean it out most likely the cooling fan
