you know, i teach guitar sometimes and although it's easy for me because i have long fingers, i've seen little kids bust out some crazy stuff on my guitar. i really don't think it matters about how long/short the frets are on the neck of the guitar, it's more just about how to get your own style of playing. everybody plays differently... there are no right or wrong ways to do the fingering for a specific chord... a lot of bar chords, where people use just one finger to hold down a few strings all at once, i'll use like three fingers to do. :) i can't bar for crap, but it sounds the same.
but again, it may be more comfortable to get a guitar with a smaller fret board... so maybe just try out a few guitars. every guitar is different from eachother, no two guitars are identical. and usually electric guitars have way thinner fret boards... just a thought. :)
just do what you feel like doing. no right or wrong way to play! :D

Yes. I have relatively short fingers (for a guy) and I've been playing for over 45 years.Get urself a decent guitar, and just make sure u get a narrower neck that will fit ur fingers. It will have to be steel strung, as nylon strung guitars have wider necks. My wife is only 4' 10" tall, with hands in proportion, & shes plays guitar with no problems. I bought her a very nice Tanglewood electro-acoustic parlour guitar, which has a small body and a thin neck. There are plenty of others that will suit u. Don't give up! Hope this helps.

Yes, you can. I have small/short fingers and I can play decently. It was difficult at first, but I did a lot of finger exercises and used a finger exerciser that I got from Guitar Center (just because they are a little cheaper there)

There are several different SIZES of guitars as well (just like violins) Go to a really good guitar shop ( independent, local) and have them help you. Most of the independent shops are owned by musicians who actually play and can help you.

I know they make 3/4 size basses, but do they make them for guitars? If they do, try one of those. Orrr a kid's guitar...
