I recieved a bill from my chiroprator for service in 2004. When I called them, they could not tell me specifically what I was being charged for. Do I have to pay this bill almost 3 years after the fact??

The Statute of limitations in California for a promisory note or contract is 4 years.

So yes, you are still obligated to pay the bill. IF however, you write a validation letter demanding that they produce documentation of the debt, for what it was incurred and the last activity on the debt, you may not have to.

the SOL is tolled from the date of the last activity. Therefore, unless they can prove that you have had activity on the debt in the previous 4 years from the date of siging the promise to pay, it's a dead issue.

There is a time period that they have to take you to court, and waiting 4 years is not going to work on their behalf!

That being said, it will be on your credit report for 7 years!

Actually, you OWE the money, whether it is today or 100 years from now!

You want permission not to pay a debt, especially if you can afford it, go look elsewhere for someone to tell you to throw your morals out the window!

Yes, statue of limitations is seven years in most states. With five being the max that they can file suit against you. This is five years after your last payment, not the inception of the bill.
