My BMW started overheating after the radiator hose blew off. I put on a new radiator and it stopped overheating and I drove it for a day and the next day it started overheating again but the temperature gage would go down if I turned a corner. What could this be?

If you have a water pump with broken plastic impeller, there may be plastic bits in the system clogging it or jamming the thermostat, you have to flush out the system by applying a reverse pressure hose (ie stick a garden hose in the reverse direction of the regular coolant flow - with the thermostat and water pump removed) to get all the pieces out.

I also would assume you would be able to bleed the radiator if you're skillful enough to replace a radiator... if not, follow the steps listed on the above answerers.

When the engine is cold add coolant until the coolant gets up to the cold (kalt) line on the expansion tank. There is a plastic bleed screw located right next to the fill cap. Loosen it. Set temperature controls to warm and turn the car to ON position (do not start the car). Slowly add coolant until it bleeds out of the bleed screw, then tighten it. Close everything back up and start the engine. Run until it is warm, then turn it back off. After the engine has cooled, recheck the coolant level.

Hope that helped.

Low coolant. The coolant was not topped off - when cool top off the coolant.

Another possibility is a damaged thermostat. But try filling the coolant first.

ON THAT YEAR 325 THE WATER PUMP HAS A PLASTIC IMPELLER--SOMETIMES/USUALLY THAT IMPELLER WILL CRACK AND CAUSE POOR COOLANT FLOW THROUGH THE ENGINE. IF THERE ARE NO LEAKS WITH A PRESSURE TESTER OR YOU HAVE ALREADY REPLACED THE THERMOSTAT THEN THIS MOST LIKELY IS THE PROBLEM CHECK IT OUT
