Try freecycle.com, people donate things that they do not want, it may not be the latest spec, but generally you will get something fairly decent. My daughter has used hers at uni for her first year and it has done her proud. With birthday and Xmas money, plus a job this summer we will upgrade the memory a bit for her. Well worth a look.

Good luck

Don't laugh, try Tesco's they have a good deal running at the moment, a very nice laptop from Gateway at a very good price

Ebay is not bad as long as you know what you are looking for, u can also check out morgan computers, dabs and ebuyer in the uk. Also dell can quite often have some offers on. Personally I would tend to steer clear of the highstreet shops as they often dont give the right advice or product !

Just by a laptop with budget features ( On home, it is everyday) and get a compaq from http://hp.com

It will run around $500

dell, hp, toshiba & acer all do laptops that range in price all are reasonably good too. depending on where you live you should be able to buy one cheap from any good pc superstore or order online from any of the 4 i mentioned above.

oh and dont buy online unless paypal is offered to protect yourself from scams

Dell.com. They are having a huge sale on laptops because of their new design coming out. It's decent for the money.

They are refurbished laptops but as good as new. Start from £290.
They all will go on the internet, play music and films, and let him do his work. They arent gaming machines though.

if you want refurbished laptops, go to www.tigerdirect.com they run from 400+ and are decent pc's
i buy all my stuff from tiger and i have yet to be disappointed yet. it usually ships within 3 days and their service is excellent.

lol go with the guy above me at geeks.com... i totally forgot about them.. they are also good to go with and they look a little cheaper than tiger.
