I can understand if a really flamboyant guy is hitting on you or something, that could be a little awkward if you're straight. However, most people who were perfectly comfortable in their own sexuality would brush it off shortly afterwards. I get along fine with gay guys and girls alike and I'm straight as an arrow! I can look at a guy and think "he's handsome" without thinking sexually about it at all. I don't understand why most people aren't the same.

Well, I don't want anything I'm saying to be misconstrued. I mentioned that I'm straight because if I was gay then people would take my views as a given. Also, I tolerate a lot of different people. My family is Christian and I have a great relationship with them. I can understand some straight men being apprehensive about being hit on but all it takes is a simple "Oh no I'm straight" and more then likely you won't be bothered any longer. It's really not a big deal.

They're conditioned by society, their parents, and their peers. When I was as young as fourth grade, kids used "that's gay" to mean "that's weird" or "that's gross." I don't even know where they heard that from, my area is really liberal and by now (I'm in high school) most people are very accepting. But that doesn't explain where the idea of gay=weird came from in the first place. Perhaps its just a natural fear of what is different which could explain racism as well as homophobia.

Even in your own question, you make sure to mention that you're "straight as an arrow." If you really didn't care would you have mentioned that? I think xenophobia is deeply ingrained into the human psyche.

Perhaps eventually homophobia will die out, but its been more than a hundred ears since slavery and there's still anti-black racism. It's going to take a while.

I have no idea why people are homophobic, because gays, girls and boys alike, are just as human as any straight person.
I once heard that there is scientific evidence that people are born straight or gay, which has to do with the chromosomes.
As man have XY and women YY, gay people have XX, so how can you want to change that?

Others said that one of the mother's X chromosomes influence the sexual orientation of the born child.

Because you are comfortable in your own skin. You have a brain and use it. You admit to your feelings. By golly, you're a decent human being! But you are definitely in the minority.

Too many people are focused on what others may think, or are ambivalent about their own sexuality. It's really rather sad.

I can't agee with you that all heterosexuals would just 'brush it off.' Personaly I don't like to be hit on by anyone, gay, bi, or straight!

I get along fine with bis and gay people too. I don't really care what their sexual orientation is. As long as they're cool to hang with.

I don't think others have a problem. It's not about being gay, as people should keep these maters private. When anyone discusses whom they have sex with, I am uncomfortable.

The gay thing is a little on the extreme side, like "I'm gay and in your face, now what are you going to do" thing. That's just offensive.

I wish more people were like you. When I get asked out by a female I simply thank them and say, "I am married and gay." Then I am flatter for several hours and go buy a lotto ticket!

Because some people just aren't comfortable with their own sexuality. If they were, they wouldn't let it bother them so much. I think the ones that protest the most are the ones that are hiding something. From themselves.

Why are heterosexual people labeled as having a "phobia"...for instance, why do people feel that if a man makes "un-natural" sexual advances towards another man, that the object of the unwanted attention must "accept" it, or be labled as harboring some irrational fear.
Most "men" don't want to be considerd as the sexual target of another man, that goes against their natural inclinations and may bring about violent tendencies.
A "man" would act the same if another man were making obvious overtures towards his wife, his so-called "phobia" would show then too.
Funny, a lot of people on here would curse at those who would try to tell them about the love of God, but would ask a straight man to tolerate a homosexual male making gestures towards them...strange.

Congrats, sir. You are more of a man than most.

I'm kind of the same way. Although I've never had a lesbian hit on me. I would certainly take it as a compliment if it did happen though!
