Is it true that ferraris have frequent break downs??? I'm planning on getting one someday but just heard that their not good cars because of frequent breakdowns and that thier only good to drive down to the beach and just for driving short distances.I know it probably costs alot to fix any problems they have but every car has problems at some point.

Yes, and it costs a fortune to repair them. I read once to drain the cooling system in a Testorossa it requires turning 220 separate valves.

While any make of car will have some that are less than others, as a generalization, Ferrari makes a very reliable car. Their racing heritage is such that they can be driven quite hard for long periods, and they hold up great. I've had the good fortune to drive a few examples at track events, as well as instruct drivers with Ferraris. They are amazing cars! However, like many cars with many parts designed for this performance and possible track use, they actually are more reliable when these parts are reguarly used... and many of these cars are "garage queens" and don't see regular use (making problems and break downs more common). When the cars are used, lubrication is circulating and everything is working as designed; when they just sit, parts are not lubricated, belts become worn and brittle, etc.

However, the fact is, if you are having concerns about the cost to fix such a car, then it is not a car you should be considering. Cost of ownership on such a car is not insignificant. Further, a car like this only makes sense as a second or third car, not a primary car. So, if you really have to think about if you can afford something like this...

The more expensive the car the more it costs to repair. My buddy bought a Ferrari and he loves it but he researched it before he bought plus he is an excellent mechanic with a well equipped shop so he can do his own repairs. For someone who is not in this position it could be expensive to maintain. I would research it very well to find out the expected maintenance costs, what is needed at specific mileage and what the car will be worth if resold. Do all the math BEFORE you buy so you are not unhappy afterwards.

P.S. My buddy stayed away for the Testarossa because even he did not want to spend a fortune on fixing it. He bought one of the 3** series and he bought from the original owner who had totally redone the interior to factory original. It needed some paint repairs (the original owner drove it a lot as he loved the car) and some regular maintenance but it has been a great car for him.

This is a car for showoffs. There are a lot more legit cars out there for less money that you can peacock around in just as well.

To me this car says "I am a dumbass. A dumbass that can go fast."
