I've known way too many people with unusual colored hair who are intelligent, responsible, loving, and hard working people to say yes to this question. then again I've known some who were off their hinges! But the same goes for people who've never dyed their hair, so really... That's just discrimination, plain and simple. Employers who would make a decision to not hire a capable person because they have purple hair are in the wrong. They are perfectly in the right to ask the potential employee to change it, and then it's up to the employee to decide if they really want to work for someone who would insist they change? chances are if they hire you anyway that they'll not make you feel welcome until you quit, so why subject yourself to that? I guess you could sue them if there are laws against it in your area, but not everyone really wants to go there.

oh jeez i am a freakin rambler. i need to go.

Does it really matter? Depending on the job environment and job function. Unless you need the person to maintain a proper formal image to represent your business. However, I do agree that most people would have a negative first impression because it is "out of the norm"

Weigh the pro's and con's and potential long term effects purple hair may have on your current staff and clientele.

Depends on what kind of career and how purple. If you're in a professional field , I would say yes. For Starbucks or retail..who cares. You're entitled to your own style. Anyone could understand why u would be refused in the professional career. No one would take you seriously. I worry about my tattoo and if that will ever get me refused.

Depends on the place, it's rules, and what the dress code is like for the guests. Also I would probably have a bad impression that you were just a regular, run of the mill, smart asses. However, if I knew otherwise. Then your hair probably wouldn't be an issue, unless you were working somewhere fancy.

When being exposed to working with the public. Ones appearance could reflect upon the employers ability to draw customers and new business. Therefore I would explain to the new upstart that the color and dress code has to be met. Otherwise cannot risk have a neon sign in my employment and risk losing customer. I know this is probably against labor relations but short of risking that I would have to just avoid hiring that individual.

well it depends, i own many different restaraunts around the world, and i own a pastry restaraunt in Mexico, i like to have these weird cakes, you know not those crappy cakes you find in walmart, like 5 star cakes... and many of the people that work there from what i last heard were "weird" people, my manager there has a mo hawk, and i no that a couple of them had green hair, some had blue... tatoos... but of course i wouldn't have them deliver the cake, i'd get some one else to get in a suit, look presentable, and go deliver the cake... so no i wouldn't refuse the person the job, i'd gladly hire them

It depends on the job. If your working at a fast food I don' tknow, but if it's an office job, you need to look presentable and purple hair...well, that just doesn't do it.

That would depend on the industry. Construction - I would hire anyone who has the intelligence and can pass a UA. As a receptionist that my customers would see as the first thing when they came to my office - no. So it would just depend - give us more details on where you were turned down.
