I need to have my deteriorated fiberboard siding replaced - but my existing soffit and fascia is newly painted and is in fine shape. My contractor says that new siding without new soffit & fascia will not look good.

Will installing new vinyl siding without installing new soffit, fasica and window wrap look and perform ok?

Of course it will. Your contractor is trying to sell soffit.

I'm with Tom. I've installed thousands of squares of the stuff. No matter how good the installation, it still looks like vinyl. Go with Hardi-Plank. Don't worry about the soffit, and fascia until it needs attention.

I have seen both ways. It will look fine to anyone that doesn't know the difference. Part of the advantage of vinyl is that you do not have to paint. If it were me I would spend the little extra to complete the job. If not you will have to paint the soffit in a few years. Would you put new shingles on only half your roof?

Sounds like someone wants to make a quick buck, if you hire him, make sure to keep your eye on him.

When your all through, go over the soffit and fascia and paint it the same color as the siding or, a comparable color, I did, came out real nice and I save a few bucks.

It will look fine...except for the vinyl siding. I've put too much of the stuff up, can't stand how it looks. :)
