Gmail, funny image with my cursor, where did it come from read below ?

when I open an email in my gmail and my cursor/point rolls across my name, and image shows up but I can't tell what it is ? Where did it come from and how do I change or get rid of it ? Is it a virus ?

It's not a virus, it's a generic image (unless you put your own in) similar to an avatar on this board that represents you. You can edit it in "Settings". (located in the upper right hand corner.) You can set them for yourself and/or each of your contacts too. You can also elect to not have one if you don't want one.
