Al Gore never said he invented the internet

GORE: Well, I will be offering -- I'll be offering my vision when my campaign begins. And it will be comprehensive and sweeping. And I hope that it will be compelling enough to draw people toward it. I feel that it will be.

But it will emerge from my dialogue with the American people. I've traveled to every part of this country during the last six years. During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet. I took the initiative in moving forward a whole range of initiatives that have proven to be important to our country's economic growth and environmental protection, improvements in our educational system.

But the real question is what, if anything, did Gore actually do to create the modern Internet? According to Vincent Cerf, a senior vice president with MCI Worldcom who's been called the Father of the Internet, "The Internet would not be where it is in the United States without the strong support given to it and related research areas by the Vice President in his current role and in his earlier role as Senator."

The inventor of the Mosaic Browser, Marc Andreesen, credits Gore with making his work possible. He received a federal grant through Gore's High Performance Computing Act. The University of Pennsylvania's Dave Ferber says that without Gore the Internet "would not be where it is today."

Not even close. Political polarization existed long before Gore. The parties have been battling it out and polarizing voters for most of the history of this country.

It's funny, I didn't vote in the 2000 election because there was noone to vote for.

Empty headed Dubya Vs. Mr Tipper Gore

Tipper Gore as first lady would have been terrifying. At least all Laura does is wander around babbling mindlessly.

I think it started in the campaigns against Reagan but then Gore did a good job of it in 2000 making up a lot of stuff, sound familiar to what he does now.

Bitter politican partisanship has been around ever since political parties were invented and it will be around long after everyone who is currently alive has died of old age.

It wasn't Al Gore's fault.
