What should i check first i have a 1993 ford explorer XLT and the 4x4 won't engage. I push the button and nothing, I have auto hubs. Before it went out i was just playing arround in the mud and a few days later, my 4x4 engage's by it's self. The only way i could turn it off was by turning my car off and back on. Sence then nothing. Any ideas of what i could be or what i should check first.

It went on automatically, and then would not shut off? It sounds like the switch itself has failed. Testing the switch for electrical continuity would be a good idea. You will need a volt meter to do so. If you do not have one you will have to visit the local mechanic.
