most fish dont get "pregnant per say"

They lay eggs...with the exception of some like mollies and guppies who are live bearers. Gold fish are known for having big bellies.

i researched this one for ya
so this answer is correct :]
no matter the type of fish. a fishes tummy swells up. the swelling usually makes the Tummy go a liter colour. in many fishes you can see little lumps (when pregnant) in side there stomach this will be the eggs.
keep watching to see if Ur fish releases eggs if so you have one pregnant fish. if you want to prevent it next time. put the fishes in separate tanks.

The fish will only lay eggs if the temperature is 'just right' as they need to have the similar surroundings / temp of water as they would in their own habitat, I know this from having cichlids which layed eggs....a very proud mummy I was too!

a goldfish can hang on to there eggs for five years or so. it needs the right temperature to lay. in a few days no!!! it was probably with eggs when you got it. we had a fish dye on us which was egg bound, did not lay.
