Most of your Africans are mouth brooders and will carry their eggs in their mouth for about 2 weeks. Have plenty of cover such as plants or holy rock etc. The female at first will eat to bring in food for the baby's but after a week or so she will spit them out to feed but will suck them back in if threatened. What I do is if you have another tank available I will catch her at night when not active. Put her in the other tank and hold her gills closed this will force her to spit the fry out and then place the female back in the original tank. This has worked for me for years.

Do the two convicts have vivid orange patches on their facets? the main easy reason at the back of convict eggs no longer hatching is that the two fish interior the pair are women. have a glance on the egg clutches interior the pictures on the two hyperlinks sourced under. If yours have approximately two times as many eggs, that's sturdy circumstantial data which you have 2 women. in case you have a woman and male in spite of everything, it may desire to be that the male is youthful. often times a youthful male is able to dealing with each and each of the motions, yet his milt isn't developed sufficient yet to fertilize the eggs. Time will treatment that. it is not mandatory to split and circumstance convicts. The woman and male could be conditioned collectively, with some sturdy frozen fish meals, and extra interest to known water modifications being sufficient to set off spawning effectively. Convicts are the "millionfish" of the egglaying fish species.

Buy a fry cage, so when the eggs hatch they have somewhere to go for protection.
You are going to have plenty of fun caring for these fry.
Good Luck

african cichlids are mean. the adults would probably eat them when they hatch. i'd take the eggs out into a smaller tank with the same water from the old tank.

Don't do a thing, African's are feisty when they have babies running around and they'll take care if them no matter what you have in the tank.

with any fish eggs, you leave them alone... first of all how long ago did the eggs get laid? are they still clear or are they turning white?
Clear= fertile viable egg
white= sterile and no good
White eggs will also spread to the good eggs if not removed
usually the fish will eat the white eggs which is good.
Your filter system must be compatable with having eggs in the tank or it will just suck em up and destroy them
Did you use a good dose of Methylene Blue in the tank?
It is specifically use for fungus and bacteria in tanks when trying to hatch fertile eggs.

-You- don't. The fish does. Separate the male and female, though. Make sure to figure out which breed you have and double-check which gender is the caretaker before trying it.
