I have always been a republican I have always believed smaller govt. is best, lower taxes etc. But I am so disgusted with the 2 party system and not sticking to what they believe. Does anyone out there think that with fewer laws and more rights we would be alot better off? I think it's time to get the power hungry politicians out and bring the new and refreshing in. What do you think?

I agree. I think both Republicans and Democrats are to blame for our crappy country. It seems like they care more about looking good and blaming the other party than the welfare of the people. Unfortunately, it will always be thus and the chances of a Libertarian president being elected are incredibly small.

With the Democrats and Republicans becoming increasingly similar, it's not surprising that you're looking for an alternative!
Why should we expect that only two parties will represent the ideals and values of millions of Americans?

Libertarians believe that voluntary associations between free individuals will create the most peaceful, equitable, and prosperous world possible. Freed from government intervention, people would be able to live as they choose and persue their dreams. Libertarians will always advocate for smaller, less intrusive government, believing that decisions that affect your life should be left to individuals, families, and communities, not politicians and bureaucrats, and certainly not the ones in Washington!

I, too, think it's time for a change - time to vote for what you truly believe in, and not settle for the same old sound bites. Look for candidates that seem to share your perspectives; who have consistently backed up their words with their actions - regardless of their party affiliation. If everyone did that, I think some real changes would occur!

I was the same way you are now three years ago. I left the party and became an independant. Have you met or know of any Libertarians? Do you even know if there is a local party. My criticism of Libertarians is this. They don't seem to have an ideology other than anarchism. If you don't have an ideology than you can't have a platform. If you don't have a platform than you don't have literature and you don't get elected. Ask a Libertarian what the purpose of government is and what does it mean to be free. If you join the Libertarians I believe they consider you to be a member of life. Ron Paul is a member yet he is running as a Republican.

LOL

Look - go here http://www.theadvocates.org/quiz.html
Take the quiz and see where you stand - if you find that you are libertarian then you have your answer - register accordingly

As for the other stuff - everyone keeps talking that this is a two party system - its not - it just appears that way because associates themselves with those two parties - people should learn what the other parties are about and choose what is appropriate for thier personal values.

Some people like to suck off society - so they would lean toward the liberal side - others dont like the leeches so they would lean toward the libertarian side.

I am a libertarian - I promote libertarianism here in florida whenever I have the chance....it amazes me how few people even know what a libertarian is and what we stand for....once they know they begin to look at things in a different manner

If you come out a libertarian I recommend you find a local group - see what steps they are taking to get involved - who knows - maybe they can use your expertise in a particular field

However your results turn out - good luck in all you do and rememeber - to thine own self be true - dont "switch" because your disgruntled - do it because its the right thing to do

It appears that both parties are out of touch with the American voters. After all only 22% polled supported the amnesty bill, but it was a battle to the end to defeat it. Clearly the the people at the old folks home don't represent us anymore.

The problem with any other party such as the libertarians, green party, reform party, etc. , is they can't generate enough support or money to be contenders. I voted libertarian in 1972, but soon realized that if I wanted smaller gov't, taxes, etc., I would have to vote republican.

The only way we will change this is to vote these fossils out of office, and send a clear mandate that we want people to represent us, or possibly we need to send them teabags to remind them of what happened 250 years ago.

I agree that fewer taxes and regulations would benefit this country and each of its citizens. I live in Washington State where 500+ bills were passed in the most recent legislative session. If each bill reads like a novel, imagine how many bills you could read and digest. This is on a state level, now imagine the national level.

I kept going between Democrat and Republican because I believe in small government and personal freedoms. Then I discovered the Libertarian party and have been happy there ever since.

I still vote for Democrats or Republicans when I like the candidate though.

I completely agree. We are rich country that gets taken advantage of by power hungry politicians. I feel that this country is heading towards a revolution. If things dont change drastically then people's frustration will mount and blow-up. I would like to one politician stick to 1 thing when they got in office. Stick to what they have said they would do, but I think that is hope for a miracle that will not come true!!

Why, and let our economic system fall apart? Libertarianism undermines individual freedom for many people by creating social inequality, poverty, and lack of accountability on the part of the most powerful. Take away government sponsered programs like well-fare for example, and you'll see a greater number of beggars on the street asking you for money so they can eat. More everyday crime, possibly riots.

The social consequences of almost unlimited personal freedom in a modern society is too harmful to allow. The extensive personal freedoms promoted by libertarians encourage unhealthy and immoral behavior and undermine religion. Morality was such a huge issue during the last elections, that a Libertarian approach would make it worse.

So you see, the libertarian ideal would make the government be non-existent, unapproachable with no steady leadership, and who would we look to help curb the problems that coencede in society on a daily basis. All amateur libertarians see is the low-taxes point of view, but not the whole picture of the movement.
