Well, it was not so much as what the teacher said; it is what she did. Back when I was in third grade I had a teacher who was harassed her students. Every time we had a spelling test, and for every word that we got wrong the students were made to go up to her desk. And then place their hands with their palms down on top of her desk and in front of her. She would then whack the back of our hands with a wooden-ruler for each word that was misspelled. Which is why I am glad they no longer allow teachers in the schools to use physical punishment on students anymore.

In third grade my teacher couldn't find her purse. She stood in front of the class asking who stole it....blamed us and everything. She wen and got the principal. While the principal was questioning us my teacher found her purse under her desk...right where she left it. She of course blamed the class and said that someone must have run up there and put it back. I am 27 years old now, and I still remember this event. That teacher was a C U Next Tuesday.

"You stupid white bastard, you think you are smarter than me?" to which I replied "Yes and I just proved it".

This was an english teacher who said we were "fixin' ta" learn something or other. I asked what page of the dictionary the word "fixin'ta" was on. Of course I was right, I was obviously smarter, but I got suspended for "disrepectin' " a teacher. (Yep, principal was black also)

Needless to say, I dropped out and took my GED not long after and went to college where I could learn and not have to listen to ignorant, racist teachers who didnt know sh&t.

In 6th grade, I always went to my locker 3rd period and ate some salteens from my locker as a snack. One day I was late for art and I needed to get a pass from my teachers. They were all in this room disscussing things, and when I came in, they made fun of me and asked if I was pregnent. My parents and myself thought that that was very out-of-line.

My college history professor said that I was "a good example of a caveman because as we all football players have the physical skills needed to survive amongst the ancient world and the low intelligence and barbaric lifestyle to match."
Sadly, that is a quote............

My senior year in high school one of my AP teachers called me to the classroom right after she had turned in grades for the 3rd quarter and yelled at me for 10 minutes.

She said she was tired of grading my practice AP tests and having to give me a 5 (best score) on all of them.

She said she was tired of having to throw my grade out every quarter, because she graded on a curve and my grade was so high it messed up the curve--she threw my grade out and started the curve with the next grade down.

She said she was tired of me raising my hand and always knowing the answer.

She said she was tired of my classmates being intimidated by me.

She said she was tired of the way my boyfriend and I interacted, and the fact that I couldn't see that my performance in the class was making him anxious and upset because he was trying to keep up with me, but falling a bit short.

She forbid me to do any more extra-credit assignments, because she was tired of having to give me extra credit on anything.

I promptly went to the office, and tried to get out of the class, but there was a rule in our school district at the time that you could only take the AP test if you were actually enrolled in an AP class (it had to do with the fact that the state awarded extra money to schools where there were good AP scores), so I had to stay in the class.

I never raised my hand again, and I never answered another question, even if she asked me directly. I wouldn't even say I don't know. I would just look at her and keep my mouth shut. The one thing I did do, just to spite her, was every single extra-credit assignment that was offered, so she would have to give me extra credit. I also started bringing books that had nothing to do with the class, and reading them to myself with the covers turned up so she could see that I was ignoring her.

When we got our AP results in the summer, I wrote to the AP people, and told them that the fact that I got a 5 had nothing to do with the teacher, and that she was a crappy teacher, and that anyone who didn't pass didn't pass because of her.

She's retired now, but I still think about calling her on the phone and saying rude things. I had felt really good about my work in the class--I felt I was working hard and doing a good job. She made me feel absolutely terrible, and after I started college I had a hard time for a while because of the stuff she said to me. I didn't really participate in class discussions or raise my hand to answer anything my whole first year of college.

My greatest anger and fear, however, is that she may have done that to other people. My brother was a high school teacher, and he told me she might get like that every year with a student who was doing well. I sure hope she didn't do that to anyone else, because it was awful.

When I was in fourth grade, we were going to present the play "Wizard of Oz". My teacher told me I would be the scarecrow. When she had given out all the parts, she started telling everyone what to wear. When she didn't mention me, I asked her what I should wear. She told me, "Oh, just wear anything ragged-looking. Wear what you are wearing today." Because I wore my sister's old clothes, it really embarrassed me; and I have never forgotten it.
