Its a 1975 40hp Evinrude outboard. I have a 89 15hp evinrude and i can see it circulating water and coming out through the spout on the bottom on the motor casing. However the 75 doesn't have the same spout and im not sure where it comes out or if it is even supouse to. I have experiance with newer motors but i haven't dealt with older motors. Any imput would be apperciated.

Put a set of "rabbit ears" with a hose on the Evinrude's water intake (this is out of the water test) on the bottom of the leg, fire it up and see if water comes out someplace. It should pretty quickly if all is OK.

Link below is to the sales brochure for that year's Evinrudes (wow, huh - couldn't believe it, either) - none of the pics show a stream (like on a Merc) of water exiting at the top of the power leg. I didn't look at all the info, though....

Most have a "Weep Hole" we call it a "Pee Hole". Normally it located just below the Cover on the Engine up top. If, it not peeing, it, not working. It could be the water pump, but, many times it just the hole is clogged. Remove the cover and locate where the hose is. Usually to the back right looking from behind. Try to remove the hose and clear it and the little plastic that go to the outside. If, it not work then, you need to check the water pump. This all I know, sorry.

These year model engines did not come with a tattle tell port. There are instructions to teach you how to install one available on Iboats.com forums.
Good luck
