Pour 1/2" of cider vinegar into a bowl. Add a couple drops of unscented dishsoap and in a couple hours you will see many drown gnats.

They are sooooo irritating aren't they? As far as I know you have to remove the cause to get rid of gnats, I assume fruit flies are the same thing, they look the same. If you have some ripening bananas or other fruit around that could be the cause. Also they can appear from certain kinds of potting soil, maybe put some of the dried moss around the bottom of your plants. Also, they can come from dirty drains I read. Put some dilluted bleach or other safer cleaner down the drain and rinse, same with your garbage disposal. I use cut up lemon rinds in my garbage disposal and that keeps it fresh. Good luck!!!

Make sure all fruit or trash is thrown out. Wash all dirty dishes. Make sure they have zero access to food. I usually do these things, then spray Lysol afterwards.
