I do actually agree with you:
I'm not entirely sure if we should neccesarily legalize pot, but I do believe that if it weren't viewed as so taboo, we'd have a lot less of a problem with it.

Probably, because anyone who has experience with it will tell you that it's NOT a "gateway drug."
The biggest problem with society is it's general lack of moderation/self-control.
We might as well say that doughnuts and double cheeseburgers are "gateway foods."
Take at look at our obesity problem. Food does not have the issue of physical withdrawl like alcohol or tobacco or opiates; neither does marijuana.
Some people just cannot control their various urges. Most of us can and have no problem with things like alcohol or weed.

Seems like you are pro drug and want the right to use it, well there is no "pro-negativity" only science and the law.
Science says its harmful and the Law says its a banned substance.
