My parents told me all the time that ,,you will have what you want if you learn and work hard". Life proved to me that this was a big big lie !

I come from other country. This is the reason I make some mistakes writing in English. Sorry.

I have come to understand for now that the lessons my parents so lovingly tried to teach were more about their life path than mine (with many insightful and relevant points)

However, once you find your 'path' it becomes clear that no two are the same and that it is the intention of love and care that parents express that is most valuable.

Don't be afraid to share your insights with your son, he will feel your love. Just remind yourself that he has his own path too....

It is freeing to mature to a point that you can shed the imposed expectations of your elders......

it reinforces the fact that you are unique and valid when you can look beyond the 'words' and see the truth.

Maybe what you call working hard doesn't compare with with their meaning. Just getting out of bed at noon and lumbering to your fast food job is not exactly working hard. Here's a short list of hard working jobs that pay good money:
Crab boat crewman
Police Officer
Stock Broker
Building Trades/engineering
Soldier
Etc etc etc

Well, how else are you to get what you want? They did not say that you would get everything that you wanted, simply "what you want". And depending on how far you stretch to learn and work hard (work hard, not just only "work"), you will eventually get what you want, even if it's only one thing out of a list of 100.

Parents are human too. They're just trying to figure it out, same as the rest of us. They're not necessarily lying. They probably believe what they're saying.

By the way, I'm 30 and I'm still trying to unlearn all the useless stuff they programmed into me.

Hey, no one's perfect, kid.

Believing the lie is what'll keep you satisfied.
And actually, what your parents told you is pretty true.
You see lots of people who live out on the street because they don't have a job. I bet what they'd want is not to go to bed hungry every night!

You'll learn eventually.

First off, skippy, your life ain't over yet. Maybe "what you want" is still on its way!
Second: yeah, my parents told me I wouldn't amount to a pile of garbage. Ha ha ha! I am a TERRIFIC pile of garbage!

Seriously. Your parents sound like fine people. You should emulate them.

You are lazy...................I can tell by your grammar. If you can't learn to even use the english language properly how can you say you have worked for anything?
