Are you looking for a wonderful long novel or lighter short books? Or are you just not sure yet.
Go to your local library and browse the selections. Once you discover a favorite author or 2 you'll have plenty to read. Start with the best sellers. After all they are best sellers for a reason.
Some of my favorite authors are John Grisham, Diana Gabaldon, Terry Brooks, John Nance and David Baldicci.

There is a new novel I have wanted to read called Falling Man... I do not remember the author, but it is stories from 9/11 interwoven into a good drama...
Good luck, I sit and wait all day on the phones as well, that is why I play around here a lot.

Really anything by Nicholas Sparks. I try to read a book of his every 4th of July weekend -- it's become like a tradition of sorts.
The Notebook
The Guardian
A Walk To Remember
This year I'm reading At First Sight.
I love how romantic he is without being overly sappy. The Guardian was a great book featuring a Great Dane (love dogs).
Have fun!

It depends which way you want to go...
You have the "chic lit" by authors like Marian Keyes, Helen Fielding or Jane Austen (yes, she really were the "chic lit queen" of the 19th century!).
You can go for the Harry Potter hystery. Starting with "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's stone".
You have the detective novels by the swedish author Håkan Nesser. His books are translated to other languages then swedish too. In case you don't speak swedish =)
But if you just want to read one great book... read "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho.

The older V.C. Andrews...go with a Flowers in the Attic. If you like it,read the series. There was a single called My Sweet Audrina..but the newer ones are by a ghost writer..and that is what they are..so don't bother if you've already read the first series.

Even one door on the two or 3 tale that replaced right into a drop off too the backyard. i think of it replaced into on a television coach yet i do no longer undergo in concepts extra beneficial than that. in keeping with danger in case you googled haunted properties with some others information you will possibly desire to discover it. Sorry i'm no longer lots help

Maybe you could try reading some of the "classics." It really does feel like you're taking a step back in time reading them. Try "Jane Eyre" by Charlotte Bronte :)
