Do White People have a right to take Pride in their Race?

Other races are encouraged to have pride in their origins. Why is it considered racism for White People to do the same?

Yes; they do.

Blacks for example don't consider themselves say 'South African', but rather as simply; Black. It is racial NOT patriotic in origin. Before anyone else mistakes patriotism for nationalism; lets be clear they are not the same thing. nationalism refers to blood kin and patriotism refers to a geo-political entity. Two very different concepts.

Everyone else can assert Racial pride; why shouldn't Whites be able to? There is no argument for saying Whites should not take pride in their race if one puts it in the context of the current situation in Europe and/or North America as regards racial minorities and their ethnocentrism.

You have asked a very good question.
I have read some of the other answers and one of which was that being white isn't really a race. On the contrary if you were asked by an equal opportunity employer upon application it would ask you. If white is not a race then neither is black.. you have Kenyan people and other tribes or colonies that all began the same as Irish colonies...and such.
I think you should take pride whatever the race you are.
I don't think anyone should think they are better than anyone else because of their difference.
I don't think any race should receive more privileges than any other race.
I don't understand Black Entertainment Television.
I don't understand the little seven year old boy that just came to my house to swim with my son that yelled " Don't mess with me I'm black... San Antonio style."
Race is Race is different and Unique why need to make it a statement? People can tell what you are.
And of course we come to slavery.
That was generations ago why teach white children to be apologetic and not see everyone as the same. Why teach a black child to be a victim and offensive at the same?
The slaves were sold to America by their own families. It isn't so much as the slavery itself as the cruelty they had to suffer.
Still it was years and years ago.
I saw a building that was made just for the advancement of mexican's. Why isn't there a building made just for the advancement every race? White people are still being punished for their ancestors mistakes is all I can come up with.
However I will not teach my son to be treated poorly because he is white. Nor will I teach him to treat others poorly because they are different.

White people are the popular bad guys right now. Everyone else points at whites as the reason for their trouble. And in today's politically correct times, that's all that counts. It doesn't matter that it was a white guy that invented the light bulb, or the airplane, or the car. These are treated as individuals. But if a non-white does something, well that's impressive, because he had to overcome not being white. So his entire race is credited with his accomplishment.

It's not exactly fair, but that's the way it is. Same thing with Men's only clubs. You can't open a men's only fitness club, but you can have a women's only facility. The most recent "villain" is not given a break. It's gotten to the point where a white male is the only person that can't get a break.

This is a complex question that turns on three issues.

1) The reason to encourage pride in an ethnicity is to keep members from feeling that their ethnicity implies that they are less capable. Its to counteract feelings of self-doubt or inadequacy.

Since, white people have been dominate in politics, business, and science in the Western World for hundreds of years it seems odd to need to say that being white doesn't make you inferior.

2) And this is vastly under-appreciated. White in and of itself is not an ethnicity. For reasons that I can explain if you want, white has sub-ethnicities that other races don't possess.

So being Irish is an ethnicity. Few people object to Irish pride although this is implicitly "white pride" since the Irish are white. The same for Italians or Germans. However, there are no sub-ethnicities of African-American. So there is simply African-American pride.

Wouldn't Asian pride for example sound much stranger than Chinese Pride.

3) There is the simple fact that many people who espouse white pride are in fact racists. This is probably the dominate reason why white pride is immediately associated with racism.

If there was a larger non-racist white pride movement it might gain acceptance. However, there is not because of reasons (1) and (2).

I think Karl_O akes the best case. White people are not truly discouraged from taking pride in their race, in fact you hear it everywhere, you just don't realize it. I'm proud to be Irish, my italian friends are proud to be Italian, and such. African americans can say "black pride" because for the most part, they were kidnapped and brought over here, and all traces of their origins were wiped out of existence.

Furtheremore, to those who tried for the extra credit by talking about affirmative action, it's not even a band-aid for the inner city school systems that the supreme court just deemed okay. i know all us white people are poor and repressed, but you'll just have to try and have a normal life, i know that cul-de-sac can get pretty scary at night.

The answer is yes but it is very inappropriate for the following reason in which I will explain in a strange sort of way.

I am Afro- American and Military vet who happens to be a history buff. One day, I went to a civil war cemetary where I caused a stir amongst some of the groundkeepers. Apparently, I had entered the confederate graves area and as you know, Black people are not supposed to do this. However, I recalled that I had payed my taxes which helped to upkeep the cemetary and pay the salaries of those whom I had annoyed. I rebuked my white counterparts and they seemed to have perfectly understood that my tax dollars and status as a vet more than qaulified me as a observer of those graves site and one in good standing....moral of the story...too many White people have abused the right to honor their great southern heritage by planting confederate flags at the scenes of terrible hate crimes and then wonder why old dixie offends so many people. Simutaneously, too many White people have taken pride in the racial oppression of others mainly Indians and Blacks to the point that the very celebration of being White becomes supect.

I take great pride in my French/English heritage, so technically this is white pride. Many African-Americans of today cannot be certain which of the African nations they have decended from as slave traders didn't seem to think that important to write down. Thus, their group is more of a skin color pride than a heritage pride as I have.

I think there is nothing wrong with being happy with who you are and what you look like. I think that minority communities in the US just get together and have pride in their culture so it doesn't all get dissolved in a "melting-pot".

I think it's ok to take pride in your race if you are white. I'm not ashamed that I'm white. But there is a difference between taking pride in your race, and thinking that your race is better than others and killing people just cause they arent like you.

I wonder the same thing. White people are not allowed to have organization's that are for the soul purpose of being white.Mrs. America use to be all white but many fought the discrimination and they have Black Mrs. America pageant .You can not be white are any other race. Along with others that are not as popular require you are only that race only no other. Revers dissemination.

They have Mexican pride day, Black history month tuns more.

The white race have been oppressive in the past to almost all other races, and for that white pride is linked to white supremacy. It isn't the same thing, but many people see it that way nonetheless. So Whites are not allowed to show are pride because with showing their pride the wrong social group may intervene and it may cause problems.

It is ok to take pride in your race. There is nothing wrong with white people to take pride in being white and whatever nationality they are.
