Number one, you should check your temp before you get out of bed at approximately the same time every morning. Before you even sit up or anything. Keep the thermometer next to your bed. If you've been drinking the night before or didn't get more than 4 hours of sleep, your temp will be raised, so make a note of those things. After a couple of months you should notice a pattern. The first half of your cycle will be a lower temp, your temp will raise AFTER you ovulate, then go back down. So you also need to keep track of your Cervical Mucus which will change BEFORE you are ovulating. So when your cervical mucus is clear and sticky, like an egg white, and then a few days later you temp raises, then you have ovulated. You should be having sex at least every other day starting on the day that your cm is fertile up to a day after your temp raises. Just taking your temp won't really help as it won't raise until after you've ovulated. There are free BBT and CM charts that you can print off of the internet or you can buy one. Search for some sites on conceiving and they can give you very detailed info on charting. Good luck!

BBT must be taking in the morning after at least 3 hours of sleep BEFORE you start moving around (before you get out of bed to pee, etc). It best to take it at the same time every morning if possible and needs to be taken on a basal thermometer (vs. a regular one). Basal thermometers are in the same area as the regular ones usually and have a picture of a baby on them most of the time.
To know when you're ovulating by temping, you usually ovulate on the day after your temp drops drastically for 2 days in a room and then spikes way above your normal temp right after AF.
Check out www.ivillage.com for some good information on BBT and charting....
Good luck!

After you ovulate your temperarure increases. So if you have been charting yout temperature, there needs to be at least 3 days of an elevated temperature to confirm that you've ovulated. For instance, my temp is usually around 97.1, and it goes up to about 97.8 when I ovulate. I hope that helps. Take it in the morning before you get out of bed. Leave the thermometer by your bedside.

You should check it in the morning first thing...even before you get out of bed! It shouldn't be a lot higher. One degree or less. But make sure you check it first thing in the morning. It should be checked before you do ANYTHING else, that way your body is at complete rest, the way it should be when you check your BBT. Good luck TTC!

I mentioned to my gynecologist that I was using checking my temp every morning to detect ovulation. I didn't notice any fluctuation in my temp, so I was worried. She told me that not every woman has a noticeable rise in body temp at the time of ovulation. She suggested buying a kit from the drug store. I just bought one today.
