If you think it's bad now, wait until the government gets their hands on it. Universal health care will cost you more after they take over than it does now, plus the quality will go down all while you are waiting for treatment.
Socialized medicine would be another way to keep people dependent on the government.

Socialized healthcare won't lower the cost of drugs or actual health care, it instead will give you, me, a new tax, everyone a new tax, to pay for it. Go look at your paychecks, see how much more can be taken out of there. If you live paycheck to paycheck, you just screwed yourself. If you don't, you now can't buy that extra stuff, or that gift for your kid (which gives businesses and other people some money).
The actual cost of universal healthcare is higher in countries than ones that have private healthcare. There is no competition to provide better service, or new medication. The only winners are the government, and some parts of the medical industry. The doctors will lose, the people will lose. What would be the incentive to young med students to be the best at what they do?
The positive would be, everyone has health care (of dubious quality) but that's about it. I think everyone already said that while I was writing this.

Government can print, borrow, or tax all the money it would need to pay for all the healthcare anyone would want in this country.
What they can't do is ensure that it will exist.
As far as the middle class getting screwed, that's nothing new. The poor don't pay taxes, since they don't have any money, and the rich don't pay taxes, because being rich means you can pass any taxes (property, income, sales, any kind of tax) to someone else, namely the Middle Class.
Stop voting for these idiots.
Don't re-elect nobody.

Positive - Everyone gets health care.
Negative - Everyone who is currently paying for their own health care gets to pay for everyone else's health care, too!!!
Also, part of socialized health care is the regulation of pay for health care professionals, which reduces the motivation to do a better job, which, in turn, leads to reduced quality of care.
Further, the bureaucracy associated with a unversal health care system would be complex and oversized, tacking on additional costs that are not currently a part of our health care costs.
Finally, whenever the government gets its hands into something, it has a strong tendency to screw it up.

All I can say on that is for as much as the supporters of universal healthcare complain about the U.S. Goverment, why in the heck would they want to put their health in the hands of that same government?

Positives: I can eat all the junk food I want, smoke 6 packs a day, never do a single sit-up, never wash my hands after pissing, and have unprotected sex every day of the year and YOU will be FORCED to pay for it. Weeeeeeeeeee!
Finally, I will be completely free from any consequence of my actions and choices. Why didn't we think of this earlier?
disclaimer: this was sarcasm of course. Universal health care is one of the worst ideas in the history of man. There are no (0, zip, nada, none) positives about it. It is pure, unadulterated, evil slavery.

Positive: Everyone has health coverage.
Negative: It doesn't solve the problem of high health care costs and would require increased taxes to pay for the coverage.
