The world will end for the Mayans, but they're all gone anyway, so who will notice?

Nothing, really. Nothing that can be predicted, anyway. I will probably turn 38 years old and have my ph.d, but even that is not certain. There is no evidence whatsoever that the world is going to end, if that is what you mean. People have been saying that every few years for over a thousand years. Why would I believe it now, just because some Mayans thought it would? That is plain silly.

the earth is just going to start a new cycle in which it is aligned with the center of the milky way. this is going to occur on the winter solstice. the earth begins a new cycle every 2600 years. the world is not ending, but is beginning something new. it is not known why the Mayans stopped their calendar on this day, but the Mayans do believe that our spiritual consciousness with be at it's peak by this time. making us a different kind of people. they believe the world as we know it will end, and a more spiritual world will begin.

Nothing special will happen. People who are predicting disaster because the Mayan calendar say so will be really quiet starting in 2013, just like all the other people who have said the world would end have done after their scheduled end did not occur.

I believe the olympics are going to happen in London.

For the religious perspective, I revert to Matthew 24:36-44

“No one knows, however, when that day and hour will come-neither the angels in heaven not the Son, the Father alone knows. The coming of the Son of Man will be like what happened in the time of Noah. In the days before the flood people ate and drank, men and women married, up to the very day Noah went into the boat; yet they did not realize what was happening until the flood came and swept them all away. That is how it will be when the Son of Man comes. At that time two men will be working in a field: one will be left behind. Two women will be at a mill grinding meal: one will be left behind. Watch out, then, because you do not know what day your Lord will come. If the owner of a house knew the time when the thief would come, you can be sure that he would say awake and not let the thief break into his house. So then, you also must always be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you are not expecting him.”

As far as the mayan calendar the end of our civilization is at hand. Will it be the return of Christ or who knows? The Mayan calendar has been accurate so far. I guess we will have to wait and see.

well this is base on the mayan prophecy, the sun will align with the epicenter of the galaxy and earth will complete an axis cycle, on the same day of december 21st 2012; it's a mistery how this ancient culture achieved this knowledge, and also they have the most accurate calendar ever created by mankind!!!

Supposedly the apocalypse according to the Mayans it December, 21, 2011.
But of course it's just a myth.
