I'm pretty sure Dickens wrote 'David Copperfield'.

It's hard to say what is my favorite Hemingway book. I guess I would pick The Old Man and the Sea even though it's a very short book.
I don't think Hemingway celebrated the pain inflicted on the bulls. I think he celebrated the courage and the perseverance of the bullfighters.
Neither "The Bridges at Toko-Ri" nor "David Copperfield" was written by Hemingway.

By far - David Copperfield. - what a great villain in this story - Uriah Heap! All of the characters in this book are just so detailed.

The Sun Also Rises: it's seedy and dark, but written beautifully with so much to think about and it lingers for years after reading it.

For Whom The Bell Tolls is also wonderful.

while I sort of respect him as a person, althogh he was very mean to his wife and didn't have to be, that going to a small inexpensive place in the middle of nowhere, getting drunk and having lots of sex and taking naps, and maybe writing if you like or are drivin toward that.

Its something everybody (men especially) can envy and respect. I hope he was more or less nice to everybody. I think he probly was , or it wouldn't hae been fun I suspect. If you are mean to hookers they are mean back mostly I think.

anyway, kis literature, while well written, is noit happy at all, full of angst and sadness, desparation, he killed himself. Never got over the bad military experiences I suspect. The bridges at toko ri was ok, not a happy book though. I don't like his writing at all.

I used to read him, but after I got more concerned about animal's suffering and his love for the Spanish "touradas", I just gave up on reading him. The pain the bulls are submitted is something very far beyond our imagination, and he loved that cruelty.

None, he is so boring. Every passage ends with "and I went to the bar and had a drink."
